The Food Standard Agencies National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme was launched in November 2010 and is in use by all Local Authorities to provide information to consumers about the food hygiene standards in food businesses. 

Compulsory display of the ratings by food businesses is already a legal requirement in Wales and in the latest Food Standards Agency Strategy it is proposed that compulsory display will be a legal requirement in the rest of the UK soon.
